At CWHF's Annual Gala honoring Women in Political Spirit, Her Excellency, Governor M. Jodi Rell, declared October 21, 2004 "The Ella Tambussi Grasso Center for Women in Politics Inauguration" Day.

It was a tremendous honor to have Governor Rell join us; she has been a supporter of the Hall of Fame throughout her political career and as only the SECOND female governor of Connecticut, she fully recognizes the importance of honoring Ella Grasso's contributions to American politics.

The Mission

The Ella Tambussi Grasso Center for Women in Politics is dedicated to honoring the late Connecticut Governor and her trailblazing career and commitment to public service. The Center encourages and nurtures the academic and professional preparation of young people, especially women, to pursue careers and roles in public service, business and community leadership, and to foster public interest, scholarly research and community programs focusing on women in both contemporary civic and corporate life in Connecticut and the nation.

As a program of the Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame,
The Ella Tambussi Grasso Center will:

• Maintain and expand archival collection of papers, materials, oral histories and documents related to Ella Grasso's life and public career.

• Develop fellowship and scholarship opportunities for educating women who wish to pursue careers in public service and community and incorporate leadership activities in the twenty-first century.

• Create programs and activities between and among scholars, writers, histories, political leaders, and business leaders on contemporary issues and topics of major importance to the community, state and nation.

Serve as a catalyst for research, writing and teaching about women in leadership roles in government, politics, business and public service.

The Ella Tambussi Grasso Center is proud to sponsor an educational program offered to Connecticut high school students.   The Ella Grasso Youth Action Conference is a day-long program designed to teach students about the inner workings of our government as well as help encourage civic engagement.
